Oliver Art Center Celebrates Young Artists This Holiday Season!

Oliver Art Center is celebrating its young artists this holiday season in several different ways. Due to the current pandemic, OAC’s annual Holiday Party has been cancelled, but with the support of MI Pest of Beulah, OAC is giving out arts and crafts bags at no charge to area families. There are two different age groups: 7 and under and 8 and up and the bags are first come first serve until they run out. Each bag contains all the supplies needed for a couple seasonal craft projects. These projects could make great holiday gifts for family members!

In addition, Oliver Art Center has also re-released their online classes. There are a total of eight online classes and each one features instructional videos, story time with Kaitlin from Benzie Shores District Library, and several different projects. Topics range from Abstract art to pop art to cave paintings to impressionism. The classes are being offered free of charge and can be done at any pace, in any order, and at any time. Oliver Art Center has supply kits for $10 that contain all supplies needed for all eight classes. Otherwise, many projects feature basic art supplies that can be found at home or inexpensively at area stores.

Oliver Art Center’s Creative Space is opening by reservation only. Due to the current pandemic guidelines, the Creative Space is closed to the public, but staff is taking appointments – by the hour, once a day – for use of the room. The room is stocked with children’s books, craft supplies, and art reference books. Cleaning protocols have been implemented as well as art supply quarantine and reservation spacing in order to help protect visitors. This service is free of charge, but OAC is accepting donations.

“We know that has been a difficult time for everyone, but especially the younger members of our community. Oliver Art Center has worked hard this year to figure out how to better serve or community during these trying times. We hope that these craft kits and classes will offer both parents and kids an opportunity to lose themselves in creativity,” says Mercedes Michalowski, Executive Director of Oliver Art Center.

Oliver Art Center is currently open Monday through Saturday 10-4 but closed on Sunday. The current exhibition is the Annual Member Exhibition and will be up through the New Year. Mary’s Gift Gallery is also open during regular gallery hours and new this year, launched an online store for easy holiday shopping. Admission to OAC is always free, but since OAC is a non-profit organization, donations are always welcome.
