Description
Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) offers a variety of programs aboard our ships and on shore for individuals of all ages.

The Schoolship Program is a half-day learning experience for grades 3-12 aboard ISEA's 77' schooner Inland Seas or the chartered 114' schooner Manitou. During the spring and fall, students gain a unique insight into the basic ecology of the Great Lakes by becoming scientists for the day as they collect and analyze Great Lakes samples, including fish, plankton and organisms that live along the bottom (benthos). These hands-on experiences often translate into an increased awareness of the Great Lakes and promotes stewardship. Three Schoolship programs are available.

Beyond Schoolship programs include an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) design and challenge course, Soil Science and Stream Monitoring at Leo Creek Preserve, bike the Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) trail, or custom shoreside and Education Center programs. Additional information can be found at schoolship.org/programs/school-field-trips.

In addition to our Schoolship programs, we have a summer sailing schedule that brings individuals, families, and groups on-board for the same hands-on science education experience. In addition to our Great Lakes Discovery Sail, we offer other unique experiences like Astronomy, Fishes of Lake Michigan, What's in the Great Lakes Food Web?, Steady the Ship, Great Lakes Under the Microscope, Breakfast on the Schooner, and other specialty sails. Learn more about our summer programs at schoolship.org/programs/public-and-family-programs.

The Suttons Bay Visitor's Center is in our Education Center and Museum. Learn more about invasive species with our interactive exhibits, observe the fish in our two large freshwater tanks, touch crayfish and mussels, examine Our Inland Seas mural, and stand in awe of the zebra-musselled bike pulled from the Boardman Lake.
