The Grand Rapids Symphony, the largest performing arts organization in West Michigan, presents a wide variety of classical, pops, chamber music and family shows indoors September through May and outdoors in July and early August every year. Nominated for the 2007 Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album for Inventions & Alchemy with jazz harpist and vocalist Deborah Henson-Conant, the orchestra made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2005 and returned there in April 2018 under Music Director Marcelo Lehninger.

The Grand Rapids Symphony presents more than 400 performances each year, touching the lives of 200,000 through extensive educational and community service programs including a Lollipop Series for pre-school children, Fifth Grade Concerts performed for more than 15,000 youngsters every year, and an Access to Music program held for patrons unable to attend regular concerts.

The orchestra sponsors the biennial Grand Rapids Bach Festival, which returns in 2019, and collaborates with Grand Rapids Ballet and Opera Grand Rapids. Affiliates include the adult Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus, and the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony and Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus.
