This year marks the 10th anniversary of Cherry Republic’s 31 Days of Giving annual campaign. Over the past decade, the company has had the opportunity to support dozens of well-deserving organizations that protect Michigan’s water, climate, and quality of life. During the 2022 campaign, Cherry Republic will gift more than $300,000 to environmental and community-focused organizations.
The campaign kicks off early this year in recognition of Giving Tuesday. The first grant of $2,500 goes to Leland-based 5Loaves2Fish Northern Michigan — an outreach group that promotes social justice by providing nourishing meals to those experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. Each week they serve a Monday meal at Safe Harbor and Veterans Park in Traverse City, provide meals to Leelanau Christian Neighbors and the Empire Food Pantry, and send meals and staple groceries to approximately 16 families in the area once a week. The donation from Cherry Republic will be used for kitchen upgrades and the cost of staple groceries sent to families.
The second grant of $2,500 goes to Leelanau Christian Neighbors, which operates five programs — a food pantry, baby pantry, Blessings in a Backpack (bags of food weekly to food insecure county students), NAM (financial assistance) and Samaritans’ Closet (resale store) — serving residents in Leelanau County experiencing emergencies in their lives. This grant will supply food weekly through the school year for 16 students, purchase six hogs for LCN’s food pantry, and pay heating bills, rent and mortgages for many.
Sara Harding, Cherry Republic’s newly named VP of Climate and Community Impact, says that this campaign is just part of the company’s overall commitment to philanthropy. “Each day throughout December, we choose an organization that safeguards Michigan’s water, land, and quality of life. Thanks to our customers’ patronage and support, we can support over 30 Michigan-based groups striving to change the world by preserving the environment and making an impact throughout our communities.”
