Join the Historical Society via Zoom on Thursday, April 15 at 7:00 pm for a presentation with Michigan underwater explorer, historian, and author Valerie van Heest. Valerie will provide a comprehensive look at the facts and legends surrounding the most famous shipwreck on the Great Lakes, Le Griffon, lost in 1679, as well as a behind-the-scenes view of her adventure appearing in an episode of the popular History Channel show Expedition Unknown, in which she joins the host, Josh Gates, to go in search of the legendary shipwreck.

Valerie van Heest is an award-winning author, museum designer, historian, and member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, whose mission is to entertain people with captivating stories of Michigan’s rich maritime history while educating and inspiring them. She is recipient of multiple awards for her books, exhibits, and historical interpretation work, and she has appeared on the Discovery, Science, Travel, History and National Geographic Channels.
