Rachel Hefferan is a Michigan-based weaver whose work is largely inspired by botanical anatomy, life cycles, and microbiological processes. This little farm brewery is at once enchanted and inspired by her work. We are pleased to be able to showcase Rachel's work on our walls this summer!
Rachel is currently an MFA candidate at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, within the department of Fibers and Material Studies. It is here that Rachel has been able to further grow and understand her passion for handweaving. Her work as an artist embodies her identity as a homesteader, environmentalist, and member of a global society which seeks to communicate on the most basic level, through cloth. Cloth is an object, item, architecture, visual language, and decoration that each person on this planet can identify with. Rachel’s work is a reflection on her interest in the scientific, and an exploration into the capability of the loom as a tool of research. She seeks to gain as much knowledge in the tactile and the technical as possible so that she can give this language of making back to a community that is hungry for the haptic connection that textiles can provide.
