The Legacy Center Gallery is proud to host the artwork of dunes artist Madeleine Schooley in their next installation. Located on the campus of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Michigan City, the Legacy Center serves as a multi-use gathering space for community and parish functions. The Gallery seeks to incorporate the parish with the greater arts community.
Living near the shores of Lake Michigan, Madeleine is a 43-year retired children’s art educator.

Her acrylic style of painting is representative of curvi-linear lines and objects, stained-glass windows and the art nouveau period with influences from Picasso, Matisse, Tiffany and Klimt. Madeleine is inspired by her faith, the dunes, and garden nature. She works in a strong sense of lines, shapes and color. This exhibit is titled “Diversity” due to the differences in the thick, black outlines seen on the paintings; Madeleine calls these lines her signature style. She also works in mixed media and collage. Four of her pieces are hanging in the Uptown Arts District as banners.

The public is invited to view Madeleine’s artwork during regular Legacy Center hours, 6 am to 8 pm CST Monday to Thursday, 6 am to 6 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 6 am to 3 pm on Sundays. The building is located at 1719 E. Barker Ave. in Michigan City, and visitors should enter through the doors off Esther Street. A special “Meet the Artist” reception will be held on Sunday, August 8 from 8:30 am to noon. Madeleine will have additional cards for sale at this time, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the school art department.
The artwork will be displayed through September 30, 2021, at which time the Gallery will change with a new artist. Questions can be directed to jessicar@qas.org.
