Prior to 1918, Cross Village was one of the largest settlements in northern Michigan—a principal player in the lumbering and commercial fishing industries. Land speculators were advertising that it would be a second Chicago—then it was gone. Local historian and artist Jane Cardinal will explore what Cross Village looked like before the fire, when it boasted three hotels, a hospital, merchants of all sorts, saloons and Father Weikamp’s convent. Cardinal’s lecture will take place on Thursday, January 17 at 5:30 pm on the second floor of the Harbor Springs History Museum.
