Each year in April as the frozen grounds of Lake Superior’s shore attempts its thaw, Festival of the Angry Bear comes out of hibernation and takes over Spring Street in downtown Marquette. Modeled after some of the great beer festivals of Europe, the festival is a showcase of barrel aged beer, live music, delicious food and community involvement. It truly is a celebration of spring, or rather the transition between winter and the 9 months of bad snowmobiling here in the U.P., though the real star of the show is our Angry Bear, Flanders Brown ale. A carefully blended and aged Belgian sour, the Angry Bear doesn’t hibernate alone. She always brings a few of her barrel aged friends along to join in the party. And as our stash of Angry Bear grows with each passing year, so too does the festival. Expect even more beer, more music, more food, and more fun to be had on Spring Street in 2018!
