Enjoy Michigan Wine, Winter Together this Valentine’s Day

The staff at Shady Lane Cellars are embracing this winter season with a newly-expanded outdoor trail and a chance to warm up by the fire with a bold red wine and your Valentine.

Michigan wineries like Shady Lane Cellars make it easy to surprise those you love with an unexpected gift. Wine can be purchased at the tasting room or shipped to a loved one from the comfort of home using the website. And yes, age verification and identification is required to ship and to accept a wine shipment.

Wondering what’s best to sip this winter?

“It’s always good to start with those wines you enjoy most, but I find one of our full-bodied reds such as Cabernet Franc or Blaufrankisch are great to snuggle up next to the fireplace with,” said Rick DeBlasio, general manager at Shady Lane Cellars. “They also pair well with hearty winter dishes – like braised short ribs or lamb stew.”

DeBlasio also suggests reaching out directly to the winery to set up a private experience – like a vineyard tour and tasting – or a gift certificate and digital experience if you’re seeking a truly special gift this Valentine’s Day or beyond.

Wineries like Shady Lane Cellars have the benefit of expansive outdoor space. The patio is currently open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday and Saturday. And, Shady Lane Cellars staff is prepared to welcome guests safely for indoor service Thursday-Sunday beginning Feb. 1 when restrictions from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services officially lift.

This winter season marks the perfect time to check out the grounds at Shady Lane Cellars, DeBlasio mentioned. And there’s a new reason to explore it this year.

“We now have a groomed cross-country ski, snowshoe, fat tire biking and hiking trail through our vineyard that can be accessed from our Tasting Room or directly off the TART Trail on the west end of our property,” said DeBlasio.

The TART Trail extension is open now and runs a 3 mile loop around the entire Shady Lane Cellars property. The newly-groomed trail welcomes walkers and bike riding in designated areas – and it’s a must-visit for those seeking a new path for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Shady Lane Cellars staff is hard at work planning events to make the most of the new trail, too.

“We’re very excited to have another element for people to enjoy this winter,” DeBlasio said. “Along with this new, multi-use trail, our beautiful scenery and warm fire pits offer a way to enjoy wine and winter together.”
