On Saturday, September 16, Downtown Holland will host its second annual “Back to
School” charity shopping event! As part of The Big Give: Back to School this Saturday,
participating Downtown Holland shops and restaurants will be donating 15% of all sales to support
Hand2Hand and Kids Food Basket. Hand2Hand and Kids Food Basket are two non-profit
organizations working with schools throughout the Holland community to ensure that no children
go hungry on the weekends or in the evenings when school is not in session. The Big Give: Back
to School is proudly sponsored by Downtown Holland’s own LVZ Financial Planning.
“At LVZ, our commitment to serving families and our community is at the core of our identity,” said
Darlene Kuipers, Director of Marketing and Strategy at LVZ. “Our firm is grateful to unite with our
downtown neighbors, igniting advocacy and fundraising efforts through The Big Give. Our
steadfast commitment to Hand2Hand and Kid’s Food Basket ensures that no child in our schools
goes hungry. Together, we’re on a mission to feed young minds and hearts.”
Over 105,000 kids in West Michigan receive free and reduced lunch at school five days a week,
but evenings, weekend, and extended school breaks are not included. And that’s where
Hand2Hand and Kids’ Food Basket make a difference. Hand2Hand’s mission is to provide hope,
love, prayers, and weekend food for kids. With the help of 6,000 volunteers, they deliver nutritious
food with dignity to over 10,000 students in close to 275 different schools in 40 school districts in
West Michigan so that children have enough food to eat on weekends and school breaks. For
more information on Hand2Hand, visit www.hand2hand.org
Kids Food Basket is a non-profit organization that pursues a future in which all children have
access to the nourishment that fosters their lifelong health and limitless potential. Kids’ Food
Basket nourishes kids through their Sack Supper program that provides over 10,000 healthy, ready
to eat meals every day to kids in need in 60 different schools across the four counties they serve,
including right here in Ottawa County. For more details, visit www.kidsfoodbasket.org.
The entire community is invited to help fight childhood hunger in the community and support
Hand2Hand and Kids’ Food Basket just by shopping and dining in Downtown Holland on Saturday,
September 16! Every purchase helps make a difference. The full list of business participating in
The Big Give: Back to School is listed below and can also be found on the Facebook event page.
