Co-Founder of Dunes Resort Honored at Pride Celebration Garden

The community is invited to the Pride Celebration Garden Dedication, 3:00 pm Saturday, September 19th, in Douglas.

The Saugatuck Douglas area is renowned as a gay-friendly travel destination and throughout the decades numerous LGTBQ community members have settled here. One couple who invested in the people and community were Carl Jennings and Larry Gammons, who opened the Douglas Dunes Resort in 1981. The Dunes grew to become the largest Midwest gay resort, and the couple went on to open many other local businesses. They inspired thousands of LGBTQ men and women who have started businesses, bought homes or traveled to the Saugatuck Douglas area to celebrate diversity.

In February 2019, Carl Jennings passed away, after having lived a wonderful life with his husband, Larry of 50 years. The Pride Celebration Garden is a loving tribute to Larry and Carl’s life together and the lives of so many LGBTQ friends, residents and visitors.

Donations and memorial plaques can be made through The Allegan County Community Foundation – a philanthropic, tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization that oversees the assets and administration of the Pride Celebration Garden Funds.
