Lest We Forget. June 22, and 23; 80th Anniversary of D-Day and Battle of Normandy, 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 to 3:00 on Sunday.
- Next weekend is the 80th Anniversary of WW II’s D-Day. And Lest We Forget, an organization that helps to preserve the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations is sponsoring an impressive lineup of events at Tiscornia Beach in St. Joseph. On Saturday, June 22 there will be a live reenactment of our battle with the Germans at Normandy Beach at 9:00 a.m. It will all begin with the American Flag parachuting through the skies, live music, and various planes roaring overhead. Then, seven WWII-era boats will land on the beaches with pyrotechnics blasting in the sand while live actors reenact the invasion. Not to glorify war, but to remind us of the great sacrifices made for our freedom. Another live invasion will begin at 1:00 p.m. reenacting our battle with the Japanese. Afterward, drive over to the SW MI Regional Airport where there will be all sorts of military regalia with vehicles, equipment, and airplanes on display, along with helicopter, plane and train rides, an obstacle course and climbing wall, food trucks, and more. A shuttle can bring people from the parking lots to the beach.

Even dessert gets in on the spirited action with an Espresso and Rum infused Old Fashioned alongside a chocolate chip cookie skillet, dripping with fudge and ice cream.
