Six world-class teams will compete this year at the annual International Fireworks Championship in September. Tickets for the event, presented by GFL Environmental and staged at Turtle Creek Stadium, will go on sale Friday, April 11th at 10 am.

The two-day event is scheduled for Friday, September 5th and Saturday, September 6th. It will feature award-winning pyrotechnic teams from China, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Canada, and the USA. The teams have up to 15 minutes to present magnificent fireworks displays to be judged by both the audience and a panel of pyrotechnic experts. A finale on Friday will be presented by last year’s winner from the UK. Saturday’s finale is designed by the panel of judges.

The Fireworks Championship is a popular event that sold out in each of its first two years. Again, this year, two-day tickets will be available. But new ticketing options are also available. Group tickets include indoor suites and a new Outdoor Lounge with seating for up to 20 people on the ballpark’s field. Ticket sales are available at the Traverse City Tourism website.

To be invited to the Championship, teams must have won a previous competition. This year’s competitors have won competitions in China, Russia, Poland, Canada, Germany, Lithuania, South Korea, and France.

“There is nothing like this championship anywhere in the country,” said Trevor Tkach (tah-KACH), President of Traverse City Tourism. “The teams are judged on their choreography, artistry, and synchronization to music. It creates an electric atmosphere for the audience.”

Reserved seats start at $45. Outdoor Lounge tickets for 20 people, which includes a private bar and food catering, are $2,000.

The International Fireworks Championship is now in its third year. Last year, the event attracted 13,000 spectators.

The presenting sponsor is GFL Environmental. Other sponsors include: TVC Airport, 4Front Credit Union, truenorth Stores, OAV, Fox Grand Traverse, Carrithers Family, Blast! Events. The show is organized by Traverse City Tourism.
