featuring Steve Leaf, Izzy Saylor, and Son Visual

Live music is back at Blandford Nature Center! Music and nature-lovers of all ages are encouraged to come enjoy a night of live music outdoors with their friends and family. This year’s Summer Solstice concert will feature the swirling ambient sounds of Steve Leaf, Lake Michigan inspired music of Izzy Saylor, and an interactive art installation by Son Visual. This will be the only outdoor concert at Blandford this year, and takes place on Thursday, June 20th from 6:30-9pm at Blandford Nature Center located at 1715 Hillburn Ave NW. Grand Rapids, MI 49504.

Steve Leaf’s new ambient project entitled ‘Sunken Melody’, features sparse compositions of drum machine, synthesizer, vocals, and guitar to weave a sound that makes you think of a dream you just can’t quite remember or as Steve likes to say ‘music that’s good to nap to.’ Opening for Steve Leaf is one of Blandford’s own Environmental Educators, Izzy Saylor with indie folk music that allows space for the natural environment to weave itself between lyrics and instrumentation. Amidst the pines you’ll find an interactive art installation by Son Visual drawing attention to the seasonality of the moon.

Artwork for the concert was created by the talented Field Sparrow Studio, who will be at the concert selling prints and other merch. Limited edition shirts featuring the design will also be available.

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to unwind with an adult beverage or soda and a picnic meal on this warm summer night. A special edition Field Beer with dandelion, lavender, bee balm, echinacea & honey will be available for purchase from Speciation Cellars & St. Steve’s Soda will be available at the show.

“This concert is all about connecting people to nature through music,” said Volunteer & Community Outreach Manager, Katie Clouse. “It’s different from the educational, youth-focused programming we regularly offer. This is a more relaxed opportunity for people of all ages and outdoor experience levels to enjoy nature.”

Tickets are $12 for non-members, $8 for members, and free for children 12 and under. Tickets are available now and can be purchased online ahead of the concert to avoid the line, or guests may purchase tickets at the door. Pre-registration is not required to attend. To learn more, attendees can
