As Tibbits wraps up its final performances of Rent for the 2024 season, experience this iconic rock musical one last time before the final curtain call. Set in the bustling East Village of New York City, the production follows a group of young artists navigating love, loss, and creativity amidst adversity.
Taking the spotlight as the proud sponsor of Rent is the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU), fueling the excitement behind this unforgettable experience. Dedicated to enhancing infrastructure and community well-being, CBPU is Coldwater's premier utility provider, ensuring reliability and quality across essential services.
CBPU delivers vital utilities, including electric, water, wastewater, and cutting-edge telecommunications like GIG Fiber Internet, TV, and digital phone, keeping Coldwater connected and empowered. With a commitment to innovation and service excellence, the company lights up the city, and plays a vital role in fostering a sense of pride among its residents.
"Just as CBPU brightens up Coldwater," remarks Tammy Huntley, Special Projects Coordinator at Tibbits Opera House, "Rent ignites the stage with powerful performances and captivating melodies." She continues, "With unforgettable acts and timeless tunes like 'Seasons of Love' and 'Take Me or Leave Me,' the show sweeps audiences off their feet, infusing the community with raw energy and riveting performances."
Director Brian Sage recalls, “As a twenty something college student making theatre in the mid 1990's, Rent was the soundtrack of my life. I knew every note, every lyric. My wife and I sang it at the top of our lungs on our first date, windows rolled down, the double disc soundtrack blaring as we barreled toward Chicago from Kalamazoo.”
Beloved worldwide, Rent continues to resonate with people of all ages and backgrounds. Sage reflects, “It spoke directly to my generation, celebrated diversity and otherness, wore its big emotions on its sleeve, and challenged the mainstream. It satisfied my desire for edgier musical theatre, breaking away from the Broadway trend of big budget spectacle and movie-to-stage adaptations and boldly countering what I saw at the time as the squeaky clean golden age musical. It hit all the right notes, and 20-some years later it still does.”
Don't miss this electrifying production. Final performances of Rent are on July 17-20 at Tibbits Opera House. Ticket prices range from $20 to $46, including fees. The show is rated PG-13, and contains mature themes, including substance abuse, sexuality, and strong language.
