The skies over Turtle Creek Stadium in Traverse City will come alive this weekend when the second-annual International Fireworks Championship presented by GFL Environmental takes center stage. Six world-class pyrotechnic teams will compete in a two-day presentation for bragging rights to some of the best fireworks in the world.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the Friday and Saturday shows. The competition increased in size from last year’s inaugural competition. This year’s show will feature teams from Australia, the United Kingdom, India, the Philippines, Finland, and the USA.
To compete, the teams must have previously won other fireworks competitions. Each team will have up to 15 minutes for their performance and will be judged on design, synchronization to music, and the overall show experience. The finale of Friday’s show will be presented by last year’s winning team from Germany. Saturday’s show will conclude with a presentation by a group of pyrotechnic judges.
“There is no other fireworks show like this in the country,” said Trevor Tkach (Tah-kosh), Traverse City Tourism President. “There is an electric atmosphere around this show that makes your senses sizzle.”
Best of Show awards will be given on both nights by a public vote of attendees. Pyrotechnic experts will present a juried award based on the teams’ performances on both Friday and Saturday.
For public safety, police will restrict and enforce no-parking zones near the stadium before and during the show. People with noise sensitivities, or concerns with pets are advised to avoid the stadium area around show time. The fireworks will start shortly after sunset.
Tickets sales and more information about the show are available at www.TraverseCity.com. All ticket sales are final. In case of rain, spectators are encouraged to dress appropriately.
