Lowell Arts announces the 39th Annual West Michigan Art Competition, showcasing outstanding artwork by Lower West Michigan artists. From 248 submissions, 115 artists were selected to display their work at the Lowell Arts Gallery from February 22 to April 12, 2025.
The competition will award $3,500 in prizes, with awards to be announced at the public Artist Reception on Sunday, March 2, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Visitors can meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments at the reception.
This prestigious competition draws artists from a 25-county region, featuring works in all visual art media by artists 18 years and older. Six equal cash awards and 5 honorable mention awards will be presented to outstanding entries, selected by this year's distinguished juror, Boisali Biswas.
Biswas, an award-winning mixed-media fiber artist based in West Bloomfield, MI, brings a unique multicultural perspective to the jury process. Raised in India, she received her BFA from Visva-Bharati University, founded by Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan, and completed her MFA at Bowling Green State University. Her three decades of experience bridging Eastern and Western artistic traditions has influenced her distinctive approach to contemporary art.
The exhibition is open to the public at the Lowell Arts Gallery, 223 W Main St, Lowell, MI 49331. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturday, 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
