Trick-or-Treat!

Halloween is here! Check out our guide to Halloween fun around West Michigan, featuring ideas to plan your Trick-or-Treating around, plus exploring West Michigan communities who are decked out for the season.

Kalamazoo SkeleTour 

Join in on the outdoor fun with Downtown Kalamazoo’s SkeleTour – a month-long celebration where downtown streets are adorned with skeletons representing great local businesses. From creepy and scary to funny and silly, there’s a skeleton for every taste!

Flick-or-Treat & Pumpkin Walk: St. Joseph

Krasl Art Center and the Coastline Children’s Film Festival will host Flick-or-Treat on October 31st. The evening inclues a pumpkin walk and projected silent films with a live piano accompaniment from Dr. Larry Shanker on KAC’s grounds. Pumpkin carvers are invited to showcase carved or decorated pumpkin in a Community Pumpkin Walk on view October 31st through November 2nd.

Halloween Weekends: Ludington

Ghosts, goblins, and other creepy, scary things will be awaiting you at Halloween Weekends at Poncho’s Pond  RV Park. Get fully immersed in Halloween with trick-or-treating, site decorating contest, kids pumpkin carving, a costume contest, and more. Halloween Weekends run the first two weekends of October. 

Hallowee-ones: Grand Rapids

This is a Halloween event designed specially for the youngest visitors! Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park will host Hallowee-ones on Friday, October 23rd. Get creative and let something from the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden inspire your child’s costume (a sculpture, animal, plant, geologist, etc)! Participate in a costume parade and listen to Halloween-themed stories. No tricks, no treats, just fun! Hallowee-ones is included with general admission.

Zoo Goes Boo: Grand Rapids

John Ball Zoo will be transformed into the ultimate Halloween destination with decorations, costumes, candy, and, of course, the Zoo’s amazing animals for the annual Zoo Goes Boo events October 16th – 18th and again October 23rd – 25th.

Witchin’ Night Out: Gaylord

Grab your friends and head to Gaylord for a howling good time as participating downtown businesses become the place where witches and goblins love to hang out during Witchin’ Night Out, October 23rd. Businesses will have spooky specials and refreshments galore.

 

Outdoor Halloween Movies: Saugatuck

Get ready for Halloween-themed outdoor movies at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts this October. Bring your own chair, grab a drink from the bar, and settle in for an evening of Halloween fun. Don’t forget a jacket! Outdoor movies include Hotel Transylvania on October 23rd, Ghostbusters October 30th, and Rocky Horror Picture Show on the 31st.

Bonus: Your ticket includes a bag of locally sourced gourmet popcorn. Yum!

 

Flashlight Tours: Muskegon

Make your way through five floors of Muskegon’s Hackley and Hume Houses using nothing but flashlights to illuminate your way. Your Lakeshore Museum Center guide will share fun, quirky, and creepy facts along the way. Flashlight tours take place October 23rd and 24th, and you’ll want to reserve your group’s space soon! Tours are $15 per person.

 

All Hallows Eve: Hastings

Do some early trick – or – treating through Historic Charlton Park in Hastings at All Hallows Eve, October 24th. Take a tram ride, enjoy a glass of cider, and find your way through the maze. Don’t forget to come in your costume for the costume contest!

 

Run for Your Lives: Ludington

Take in Ludington’s fall color at the Run for the Your Lives 5K/10K on Halloween morning in Cartier Park. Feel free to get festive and dress for the occasion! 

Off-Road Halloween: Jerome

Come up with a costume for both yourself and your ORV at Bundy Hill Off Road in Jerome! Halloween costumes are encouraged during your off-roading adventure, and make sure you’re back in time for the trunk ‘n’ treat at 6:00 pm. Don’t forget to bring candy to pass out. Dress up your vehicle, and you could win a free pass to Bundy Hill Off Road (just make sure to register for the costume contest when you arrive).

Trunk or Treat: Big Rapids

Head to downtown Big Rapids in Mecosta County on Halloween for a Trunk or Treat event. You’ll find a wonderful spooky time with candy, mini pumpkins, and a photo backdrop to capture the spirit. CDC guidelines will be enforced and followed to make this event a safe one. Watch Mecosta’s Community Calendar as they continue to add more Halloween fun. 

 

Costumed Kayaking: Muskegon

Put on your scariest outfit and grab your paddles for a costumed full moon float! Guy’s Ultimate Kayak Service will be hosting this guided float the night of October 31st in Muskegon. Wear a costume and get a discount on your float, which includes a kayak, paddle, life vest, glow stick, and transport back to your vehicle. Kayak owners are welcome to join, but must provide their own transport. 

 

Halloween Fun: Mt. Pleasant

Mid Michigan College gets in the Halloween spirit in October by hosting a “Haunted Drive-In Movie” for $20 at the Mt. Pleasant campus. Other businesses around Mt. Pleasant are also offering Halloween themed activities, including a Brews and Brushes painting workshop. 

 

Sparta: Concrete Cauldron & Hay Bale Decorating

Check out the Concrete Cauldron decorating contest in downtown Sparta and celebrate “Hollywood Halloween!” See if you can spot all of the decorated cauldrons and hay bales around town as you explore and enjoy the crisp, Fall air.

 

Frankfort/Elberta: Downtown Decor

Downtown Frankfort and Elberta light poles will be decorated for the Halloween season thanks to local organizations and businesses. Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce is also encouraging the community to decorate their homes, businesses, bikes, vehicles, pets, and themselves and share photos on the chamber Facebook page for a chance to win prizes.
