Scott Reinert, Executive Director of the South Haven/Van Buren County Convention & Visitors Bureau, announced in December that he will be retiring from his position at the end of May, 2021. “There are many reasons behind this decision, and they are all positive ones,” Reinert stated. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the community and area that I love. To be in a position to share the wonder of our area with visitors has been such a joy and so rewarding. I am so bullish and optimistic about the future for our area.”
“We sincerely appreciate Scott’s service to our Bureau and community and wish him all the best as he transitions to this next chapter in his life. At the same time, we are excited to start the process of finding Scott’s replacement” said John Marple, President of the Bureau Board of Directors. “Scott’s retirement timing of May of 2021 gives us plenty of time to ensure we hire the best candidate for the position and have an appropriate transition timeframe with Scott and his team.”
Despite the turmoil caused from the pandemic in 2020, Marple is extremely optimistic about the future of tourism in the South Haven area. “Our destination proved to be attractive to visitors despite broader travel restrictions put in place. Our area recovered much more strongly than many larger communities, and most area businesses were able to survive the challenges. And we know we hosted many first-time travelers to the area – which we are confident will translate to return visitation in future years.”
“I am very proud of the work our team has completed over the past five years to position the South Haven area as a premier travel destination,” Reinert said. “I’m excited that the new Director will have a strong foundation to build from in the coming years.”
Marple indicated the Board of Directors will begin receiving resumes for qualified candidates for the Executive Director position starting January 18, 2021. “A job description for the position can be found on our website at www.southhaven.org/director,” Marple said. A cover letter and resume can be submitted for consideration at HR@southhaven.org or mailed to the South Haven Visitors Bureau, attn: Human Resources, 546 Phoenix Street, South Haven, MI 49090. The deadline to submit resumes is February 12, 2021.
Marple also announced that Reinert would be serving in a part-time project capacity after his retirement in May. “The Board is thrilled that Scott will be continuing to serve our Bureau and community. In addition to leading our highly successful marketing efforts, Scott has led many community enhancement initiatives that will benefit our community, so providing future continuity in those areas is a win-win.”
“I have really developed a passion to enhance and grow the amenities of our community,” Reinert stated. “Projects designed to improve guest experiences, growing our cultural attractions, and enhancing our trails and recreations assets are of great benefit for our residents as well. So, I’m excited to be able to continue to serve in this capacity.”
