Tradition of Holiday Giving at Gun Lake Casino Continues

Gun Lake Casino, a devoted supporter of the local community, raised and contributed over $59,000 to eight Michigan counties this holiday season. While continuing the tradition of giving, the casino partnered with eleven local food organizations, Toys for Tots, and American Indian Health and Family Services to support those in need.

“Each holiday season, it is a cherished tradition for Gun Lake Casino to spread cheer by supporting local charity partners,” said Sal Semola, president and chief operating officer for Gun Lake Casino. “We care deeply about the wellbeing of our community and we recognize that the need this year is greater than ever before. As a company, even during this challenging time, we have remained focused on providing monetary and essential donations to the organizations assisting local children, feeding the hungry and clothing those in need.”

For the ninth year in a row, Gun Lake Casino continued their holiday tradition of collecting donations for Toys for Tots. From November 01 – December 15, gifts for children ages 0-16 were raised. In collaboration with thousands of kindhearted guests and team members, Gun Lake Casino proudly contributed over $31,000 in toys, providing enough gifts for almost 2,000 children.

The charitable contributions continued as Gun Lake Casino and the Gun Lake Tribe worked together to raise donations for a non-profit organization, focusing on the health and wellbeing of Native American people. The combined effort provided the American Indian Health & Family Services, located Detroit, Michigan, with over $8,000 in new coats, snow pants, gloves, hats, mittens, socks, children’s boots and other warm winter clothing. The collection also included dozens of essential baby items, cleaning supplies and body care items.

In addition to the collection of toys and essential items, for the eighth year, Gun Lake Casino took action against the issue of hunger within the community. During the last two weeks of December 2020, Gun Lake Casino visited eleven local food organizations to thank the frontline workers for their essential contributions this year. Each charity was presented with a check to support their admirable cause.

The holiday giving focused on recognizing, supporting and thanking the following charities; Allegan County Food Pantry, Manna’s Market, The Green Apple Pantry, Community Action House, Good Hands Plainwell, Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, Martin Area Resource Center, Christian Neighbors Plainwell, Christian Neighbors of Wayland, West Michigan Veteran’s Assistance Program, and Feeding America West Michigan. In total, $20,000 was donated to combat hunger in West Michigan.

“Although the challenges of 2020 have been difficult for all, witnessing the way our community came together during the holiday season is the highlight of this difficult year,” concluded Semola.
