The Ramsdell will present a retrospective art exhibit featuring local artist Mary Wahr on Friday, October 16, 2020. Gallery hours are Fridays from 12pm – 3pm, and it is free to visit. Guests must sign up online or at the door. The original opening date was back in April and rescheduled due to COVID-19. The Ramsdell is excited to have the live exhibit available for viewing.
The exhibit will feature works the span a lifetime of artmaking. Mary has a wonderful eye for color, using contrasting and harmonious colors in bold compositions. She uses texture to enhance her work. “I want to engage the viewer and encourage them to explore my art,” said Mary. Mary’s artwork has been shown in exhibitions in Wisconsin, New Orleans, the Muskegon Museum of Art, Art Prize in Grand Rapids, various Michigan venues, New York, and Coimbra, Portugal. She has participated in the Joint Mathematics Meeting and Bridges Conference. Both are associations that believe art and math are connected.
“I am fascinated by the use of texture and contrast in art and use it extensively in my own art. My work continually explores the use of these two elements. Textures can stimulate the imagination and invite the viewer into a world of calm. This is particularly evident in my fractal field paintings. Contrast adds depth and perspective. This is easily seen in my pencil and colored pencil work. My work is meant to pull the viewer into a moment of comfort and joy.” –artist statement by Mary Wahr
