Traditions Live On…2020 Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade

The Harbor Springs Area Historical Society’s 2020 Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade originally planned for Thursday, June 25, 2020, has been moved to Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 6 pm on the water in Little Traverse Bay. The Summer Launch party that typically follows the Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade is still canceled due to COVID 19.

All watercraft are invited to join the 8th Annual Blessing of the Fleet Boat Parade in Little Traverse Bay.

Traditions Live on in Harbor Springs and there is no better time to kick-off the summer and celebrate the rich maritime history of the area with a blessing of all watercraft for a safe boating season. Weather permitting, the boat parade will extend from Harbor Point to Petoskey State Park, for increased viewing area and to allow for social distancing. There will be no events on the main city pier.

“The essence of Harbor Springs is tradition, history and legacy. Our theme this year is ‘Traditions Live On,’ and it seemed important now to have something to celebrate and a sense of a return to normalcy.

We are excited about this event, not only as a celebration on the water, but as an opportunity to help downtown businesses affected by the current dynamics. Many local restaurants will be offering a Blessing of the Fleet Parade special, for your picnic or voyage, and merchants will again decorate with nautical flags.” said Sharon Mihalik, event chair, “In place of our Summer’s Launch Party, we will use the Historical Society’s resources to help drive business to local merchants and restaurants, before and after the blessing boat parade.

The event is the Historical Society’s signature fundraiser and was created in 2013 by past board members Pat Anton and Lisa Sutter. To date, the event has raised more than $225,000 for their year-round programs.

“We thank our sponsors and host committee for continuing to support the HSAHS. These funds work to preserve and share the heritage of our community through programming and maintain our historic buildings,” Executive Director, Kristyn Balog stated. “We greatly appreciate such dedication.”

You can join HSAHS’s efforts by making a donation and participating in the blessing boat parade. Details regarding the parade route and boat registration available by calling 231.526.9771 or online at
