Mission Point Resort will open for the 2020 season on Thursday, June 25, with health, safety, and sanitation set as top priorities throughout the family-owned property. The ‘Mission Point CARES’ Cleanliness Plan was developed in accordance with the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s Stay Safe plan. This season, the 18-acre resort will continue to exceed the expectations of visiting guests by implementing best practices in safety measures and cleanliness procedures based on the recommendations of government, state and local health agencies, including the CDC, WHO, and the Governor’s Office, as well as leading hospitality organizations, including the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association and the U.S. Travel Association.
“The health and safety of our guests, employees and fellow island residents is absolutely paramount,” said Liz Ware, vice president of sales & marketing. “We look forward to welcoming guests in June, and have taken industry-leading steps to ensure safety measures across the property are implemented. The Mission Point CARES program is a comprehensive and transparent compilation of all protocols put in place to assure our guests that Mission Point is the trusted family resort on Mackinac Island.”
Mission Point is ideally situated on Mackinac Island for families with pent-up desire to travel to wide- open spaces in Northern Michigan. The 18-acre grounds, featuring its multi-acre Great Lawn dotted with iconic Adirondack chairs, are suited for family picnics or a stop between adventures, while the property’s picturesque gardens provide the perfect setting to spread out and enjoy the outdoors. Additional multi-speed, Michigan-made Detroit Bikes were added to the resort’s fleet this season, encouraging guests to explore Mackinac Island’s 70+ miles of hiking and biking trails. Complimentary bike rentals will be offered to all guests visiting June 25-30, 2020.
Anticipating increased demand for outdoor dining this season, Mission Point has also added more outdoor seating, take-out, and grab-and-go options at Round Island Bar & Grill, Bistro on the Greens, and Boxwood Coffeeshop & Café. All restaurants on property feature the resort’s “farm-to-ferry” culinary offerings, sourcing ingredients from local farms and purveyors in the Straits of Mackinac region and across Michigan.
The 18-acre lakefront Mission Point resort offers a newly designed flexible meeting space now reimagined for safe and efficient remote working. The space continues to reflect the property-wide renovation style in bringing the gorgeous colors of Mackinac Island indoors, featuring approximately 14,000 square feet and 13 breakout rooms. Additionally, the hotel will debut a newly renovated outdoor Promenade Deck and Pavilion, adding another wide-open patio space for guests to enjoy the majestic views of the Straits of Mackinac.
As Mackinac Island is one of Michigan’s top tourist destinations, the island community is working together to provide realistic and safe opening and visiting guidelines. The Mackinac Island Public Health Task Force, composed of Island business owners and local and state health officials, was created to address community concerns regarding coronavirus and tourism. As a founding member, Mission Point and the Task Force team are working closely with the following partners to ensure health and safety remain a top priority throughout the upcoming season:
- City of Mackinac Island & Mayor Margaret Doud
- Mackinac Island City Council
- Mackinac Island Community Foundation
- LMAS Health Department
- Mackinac Straits Health System
- Mackinac Island Medical Center
- Mackinac Island Police, Fire and EMS
“As the largest family-owned hotel on Mackinac Island, we welcome thousands of Michigan families each year,” said Ware. “Over the winter and throughout the Stay Home, Stay Safe Executive Order, we’ve connected virtually with so many of our valued repeat guests, and are looking forward to safely opening our doors once again.”
