John Ball Zoo announces matching opportunity for total gift of $200,000

John Ball Zoo officially announces the launch of a matching gift campaign to support the mission of the Zoo. In light of having to cancel their largest fundraiser of the year, RendeZoo, the Zoo’s sponsors of the event have rallied together and will match all gifts made up to $100,000.

Together, with the community, the Zoo hopes to raise $200,000 by June 22nd. In addition to the matching gift announcement, the Zoo will also be hosting a hybrid virtual and onsite fundraiser from June 16-22 called WildLive Week. This week will boast animal birthday celebrations, fun videos, community partnership announcements and Zoo-themed ways to donate each day. “I am humbled to announce that every donation made from now until June 22nd will be matched by our RendeZoo sponsors up to $100,000! We are grateful they have allowed us to keep their sponsorship commitments as a gift to the Zoo,” commented Peter D’Arienzo, Chief Executive Officer for John Ball Zoo. “These times are challenging, but if you are able, we ask you to please consider making a gift today. Now, more than ever, every dollar counts,” added D’Arienzo.

The Zoo has options for those making a financial gift. Donations can be made via the Zoo’s website at, via mail to John Ball Zoo,1300 W. Fulton St., Grand Rapids 49504 or by calling (616) 336-3036.

John Ball Zoo will be announcing opening day details for the 2020 season as soon as it is safe to open to the public. Along with cleaning, safety and social distancing protocols, guests will be greeted by a new front entry valley, BRICKLIVE animal sculptures, a mob of meerkats in a new environmentally innovative habitat, and much more.

“We thank you — not only for your generosity in the past and your consideration today, but for your continued confidence in our work,” concluded D’Arienzo.
