Wine in West Michigan’s North Region
The Traverse Wine Coast in Traverse City is home to more than 25 vineyards across Old Mission and Leelanau Peninsulas. The Jacobson family founded Leelanau Cellars in 1974 in one of its Leelanau County cherry orchards, believing Northern Michigan would be a great place to grow wine grapes and produce wine. Two K Farms Cidery and Winery is located just south of Suttons Bay offering breathtaking views of West Grand Traverse Bay. In 2015, Maple Moon Sugarbush & Winery in Petoskey became America’s first and only Maple Winery. While many wineries combine various ingredients to create something new, it’s much rarer to take it a step further with maple syrup. Lemon Creek Winery in Berrien Springs is a family owned and operated artisanal producer of estate grown wines. Lawton Ridge Winery has been growing wine grapes at their vineyard in Lawton, Michigan since 1974, and they opened their production facility and tasting room on Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo in 2008. All of the wine that they produce comes from grapes grown either in their vineyard or in neighboring vineyards in the Lake Michigan Shore AVA.
