Tibbits volunteer Kim Ashenfelter has been named January Volunteer of the Month for the historic theatre.
Ashenfelter and her husband Matt have volunteered at Tibbits for the past four years. They initially got involved when a friend asked them to volunteer with her. Ashenfelter began her volunteering experience by ushering, but then took the bartender course and currently helps in that capacity as well.
For years, Ashenfelter lived in the small community of Lyons, Ohio, having moved from Toledo. Though the Ashenfelters had been coming to this area since 1985, they moved to Coldwater permanently in 2015.
When she’s not volunteering at Tibbits, Ashenfelter is kept busy with her 23-year career as an office manager at a family physician’s office, and by spending time with her family. She and Matt have three daughters, one son, and 9 grandchildren. Along with volunteering for Tibbits Summer Theatre, their summer revolves around grandkids’ skiing, tubing and boating when they visit.
Ashenfelter loves volunteering with Tibbits. She says, “When I walk into this great building I am in awe every time. The entry and basement history timelines are phenomenal, and the staff is great!”
The Volunteer of the Month is chosen by Tibbits staff. Selection is based on the hours and/or service, as well as leadership, special skills or expertise shared. Criteria may be project specific or general support and volunteerism. In recognition of this award, Ashenfelter received a $25 Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce Debit Card.
Tibbits is always looking for more volunteers in a variety of areas: ushering, working the gift shop or concessions area, doing general office help, sorting archival materials, planting flowers or decorating the theater and much more. Those interested in volunteering should contact Tirsha Odisher at Tibbits at 517-278-6029 or boxoffice@Tibbits.org. Tibbits Opera House is located at 14 S. Hanchett Street, Coldwater, MI
