What’s Happening in Northern Michigan: Thanksgiving Weekend, Earlier Than the Bird, Open House

It’s official: we are one week away from Thanksgiving and plenty of communities have activities planned for your family to enjoy!

Adrienne Brown-Reasner from the West Michigan Tourist Association has the details on What’s Happening in Northern Michigan.

Thanksgiving Weekend at Crystal Mountain

Join Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville Thanksgiving weekend for a holiday full of family activities.

Begin Thanksgiving day with Crystal’s 15th annual Turkey Vulture Trot 5K Run/Walk thru the scenic rolling terrain of Crystal Mountain.

The top male and female finishers overall in the 5K receive a Crystal premier season pass.

Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving buffet with all the trimmings at the annual Thanksgiving buffet in the Crystal Center.

On Friday, November 29, take part in the Holiday Trail Celebration, a festive tour through Crystal’s quaint resort village.

Each trail stop offers unique activities, entertainment, food and beverage and retail sales.

Saturday, November 30, brings the First Light Celebration, where Crystal Mountain will be lit up with twinkly lights and the Christmas tree will be lit for the first time.

Earlier Than the Bird

Jump out of bed early, keep your pajamas on and grab your friends to get a head start on your holiday shopping Saturday, November 23, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Boyne City’s Earlier Than the Bird shopping event.

All the downtown stores are brimming with great deals, some taste samples, and lots of goodies for your holiday gift-giving needs.

But you have to wear pajamas to get the best deals!

Stop at the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce office early as the first 125 shoppers in line will receive a free gift and a buyer’s guide!

Charlevoix Holiday Open House

Welcome the holiday season at the Charlevoix Holiday Open House November 29.

Find Black Friday deals all day at Charlevoix stores and restaurants.

Stop by Santa’s workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. to create a special holiday art project to take home.

Santa and his jolly elves will be at the Charlevoix State Bank for photos 3 to 5 p.m.

Enjoy complimentary cookies from Subway and cocoa from Stafford’s Weathervane restaurant at 4 p.m. in East Park while waiting the start of the holiday parade and the community Christmas tree lighting.
