The Air Zoo is busy getting ready for what is sure to be one of the “coolest” events of the year! Saturday, October 26th, the Air Zoo, in partnership with Milk Means More and Airgas, will kick-off a challenge of epic proportions. Eight local teams will be on-site with their very own ice cream recipes for the public to taste and vote on. As the Air Zoo is a community hub of STEAM education and activities, it is only fitting that science play a part in this event. Each team’s recipe will be flash-frozen on the Air Zoo’s exhibit floor, for the public to see, with an arctic-blast of liquid nitrogen!
This first ever Air Zoo Ice Cream Challenge will feature eight local teams, all making and serving their original (delicious) flavors on-site. Battling for the trophy are: Discover Kalamazoo!, The Local Lick; Eaton/Eaton Cummins, Waffleicious; Kalamazoo Regional Education Service Agency (KRESA), Oreo Dippers; Michigan Emerging Museum Professionals, Apple Pie; Midwest Communications, Maple Cinnamon Bronco Crunch; Old National Bank, Blue Moon; Schupan, Cake Batter; and the Air Zoo team will be featuring Pink P-40 Peppermint.
The event is included with Air Zoo admission and, as always, is free to Air Zoo members. The teams will begin their prep at 9am with public tasting running from 10am-2pm, while supplies last. Milk Means More mascot Mootilda, will be on site to greet visitors and take photos with families. Attendees will be required to try each flavor to cast a vote on this year’s inaugural winner. Ingredient lists will be posted at each table for guests to view and food allergies will be considered for visitors unable to taste all eight flavors. Completed ballots will be collected by 2pm and the 2019 gold-cone trophy winner will be announced at 3pm, as well as best of show and other designations.
Special thanks to event sponsors, Milk Means More and Airgas of Kalamazoo, for providing the necessary milk and liquid nitrogen for this event!
