Luminescence at Saugatuck Center for the Arts

  • Luminescence is an interactive, light-infused exhibit that prompts passive viewers to become active participants, redefining the typical viewer-viewed relationship by creating a responsive, hands-on experience.
  • By mashing up art, electrical engineering, design, and physics, Luminescence offers our West Michigan community a uniquely transformative experience showcasing work that expands our view of how we define – and play with – art.
  • All of the work in Luminescence and Playful Spaces has an element of light to view, to touch, to alter.  Many pieces will include sources of constant light that the viewer will be able to shift or reset through his/her interaction.
  • Friday, October 18 from 6:30-9:00. Free Admission.
  • Kick-off the Halloween festivities with the Saugatuck Center for the Arts Friday, October 18 with a party under our pavilion.
  • We’re amping up the opening reception with live music, local food, cash bar, and hands-on art projects for children and families.
  • Opening October 18th with an indoor/outdoor reception, Luminescence is an interactive, light-infused exhibit that prompts passive viewers to become active participants, redefining the typical viewer-viewed relationship by creating a responsive, hands-on experience.
  • Exhibit open through December 20th

Eeeee! Enter the Haunted Scareousel … if you dare!

  • Ooooo. Our 48 figures and two chariots LOVE this time of year. When you step through the Silver Beach Haunted Scareousel House doors, you will see why!
  • As you whirl beneath 1,000 Halloween lights casting an eerie glow on the Scareousel, the band organ plays spine-tingly music (and some giggly, monster mashing tunes, too). Come in costume (the figures will wear their witch’s hats) and take photos.
  • Be sure to fall under the spell of the miniature electric train through the haunted village. Then munch on warm popcorn, fresh caramel corn, fluffy cotton candy and other fall treats as you draw spooky designs on the coloring sheets, play board games and rock in the creaky chairs together.
  • Thursday through Sunday. Thursdays are Family Fun Nights and rides are only $1 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Here are two especially spooktacular nights:
  • OCTOBER 17 – It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Enter the FREE hourly drawings for Peanuts windsocks and Halloween stickers.
  • OCTOBER 24 – Haunted Scareousel! Special guest John Dudley will stump you with his magic tricks. Anyone wearing a costume will get one FREE ride. Plus there will be FREE hourly drawings for Ty® stuffed figures and mini-LEGO® builds.
  • The Scareousel will be closed October 31 so you can enjoy your local Halloween festivities. We will spin more happy memories with you on November 1.
