THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, DOWNTOWN BELLAIRE GIVING THURSDAY, ALL DAY
Participating businesses in Bellaire will donate a portion of their proceeds on Thursday, September 19 to support Grass River Natural Area’s mission. Please shop or dine in Bellaire on the 19th to show your support for the town and its generosity to GRNA.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, FALL MUSHROOM FORAY,
10 AM—NOON, $5 per person
Mushrooms are plentiful in the fall! Take a walk through woodland and wetland to collect and learn to identify the fungi for Northern Michigan. Grass River Natural Area is located at 6500 Alden Highway, Bellaire MI.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
KAYAK GRASS RIVER, 10 AM—NOON
There is no better way to experience Grass River in autumn than by paddling its calm waters and enjoying its unique wildlife! On these guided tours, visitors explore Grass River by kayak and find out about GRNA’s conservation efforts, wetland plants, and wildlife. $25 per person, $45 with kayak rental. Meets off-site. No restrooms at launch site. Adults only. More information at grassriver.org.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, FALL STREAM MONITORING
Grass River Natural Area’s biannual stream monitoring is a great way to get involved in collecting data for GRNA. They have two, two hour time slots for which they need volunteers for the morning:
9 AM – 11 AM—Volunteers to collect samples in locations on Finch Creek
11 AM—1:00 PM—Volunteers to pick through the samples at the center.
You may register to participate in one time slot or both. All abilities (and ages) welcome. Online registration is now open at www.grassriver.org.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28—PASTEL WORKSHOP
AUTUMN ALONG THE RIVER—1 PM—3 PM, $ 8 per person, includes materials
Bright colors are appearing among the forest greenery. We will use pastels to capture their brilliance and light. Photos will be available to use, but if you have a picture of Grass River, bring it along to share. For adults and youth 12 and up. Class size is limited to 12. More information at grassriver.org.
