Internationally acclaimed Bollywood dance spectacular comes to The Mendel Center on Nov. 8

Brilliant dancers, dynamic music, stunning visual effects, and more than 1,000 opulent costumes will burst into a kaleidoscope of color and beauty when Mystic India: The World Tour comes to The Mendel Center Mainstage in Benton Harbor on Friday, November 8, at 8 pm.

Within the last decade, Bollywood music and dance has had a major impact worldwide. Mystic India: The World Tour captures the essence of the Indian spirit. Created by Director Amit Shah and AATMA Performing Arts, Mystic India: The World Tour is an internationally acclaimed Bollywood dance spectacular based on the concept of ancient India’s transition into modern India. The colorful costumes and elaborate sets have been custom designed by Shah and hand-made in India’s film capital by a team of 40 designers and workers over the course of four years.

Over half-a-million people have experienced Mystic India: The World Tour since its inception through successful tours in South Africa, Switzerland, Canada, China, and during hundreds of sold-out shows in the United States. The New York Times said that the production is “impeccable in its combination of Eastern roots and modern showmanship.” City & Shore Magazine voted it “The Must See Show of the Season.”

The team of diverse dancers from the AATMA Performing Arts dance company combines authentic Indian and modern techniques, bringing the streets of Mumbai and New York into perfect harmony.

AATMA Performing Arts is an award-winning dance company that stands at the unique intersection of traditional Indian performance and modern movement. Founded by Shah, the organization is an outgrowth of the experiences of Indian-Americans who have found a delicate balance in fusing Indian classical and folk dance with Western disciplines. As pioneers in this field, AATMA has received international acclaim and media attention in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, and is the first US-based Indian dance company to do so on such a large scale.

Even with its rapidly expanding global reputation, AATMA prides itself on its unique position to preserve Indian culture, fostering its expression in the context of American communities. As a professional dance troupe and school, it remains dedicated to this mission, creating a brilliant fusion of the Eastern and Western world, all while influencing others around the world to do the same.
