Fall Programs at Grass River Natural Area

 August 13 – Blooms and Birds Wildflower Walk, 10 am – 12 pm

Go for a relaxing stroll on the trails with Grass River Natural Area docent Julie Hurd each week to find and identify the beautiful and unique wildflowers at Grass River. Along the way we will listen and look for the birds that call Grass River home. Every Tuesday at 10am. Donations are always appreciated. More information at grassriver.org.

 

August 15 – ART: Nature’s Patterns & Textures, 1pm – 2:30 pm

Capture the “feel” of Grass River Natural Area in a collage. We will make rubbings and use ‘natural’ stamps to create a unique and imaginative work of art. $8 per person.

August 16 – Kayak Grass River, 9:00am – 11:30am

There is no better way to experience Grass River than by paddling its calm waters and enjoying its unique wildlife! On these guided tours, visitors explore Grass River by kayak and find out about GRNA’s conservation efforts, wetland plants, and wildlife. $25 per person, $45 with kayak rental.  This program meets off-site at the end of Grass River Road off of M-88. No restrooms at launch site. More information at grassriver.org.

 

August 16 – Nature Story Time, Weekly, 10 am – 11:30 am

Each week enjoy a short children’s story and an activity or a hike on the beautiful trails at Grass River. For young children ages 4 and up, but all ages welcome. $5 per child. Larger groups please call ahead.

August 17 – Whistle Up the Bay at Antrim Creek Natural Area, 10 am – noon

Learn Antrim Creek history on a hike using the story from the book Whistle Up the Bay as the starting point. The book, illustrated by local artist, Betty Beebe, is about the Guyer family and the boys who lived near Antrim Creek. Meet at ACNA’s south entrance on Old Dixie Hwy near Atwood, MI.

August 21 – Yoga in the Outdoors, 10 am – 11 am

Start the morning with stretching & breathing in the fresh northern Michigan air. Jason Minaker, certified yoga instructor, will lead the class. All abilities welcome. Bring a mat if you have one. $5 per person.

 

 

Natural Dye Workshop 200August 22 – ART: Natural Dye Workshop, 10 am – noon

In this hands-on, adult workshop, Julie Hurd will introduce susta​inable plant dye methods & application of natural dyes inspired by modern and ancient traditions. Cost is $15 per person.
