Downtown Holland is pleased to welcome world-renowned juggler Kyle Johnson to the Downtown Holland Street Performer Series tomorrow, Thursday, August 8, from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. Every Thursday night this summer, the sidewalks of Downtown Holland are filled with performing artists and groups from every background, including musicians, balloon twisters, jugglers, magicians, aerial acrobats, dancers, face painters and so much more! Performer Series is free to attend and is proudly sponsored by Gentex Corporation.
Johnson started juggling at the age of 14 in the valley of Northern California. He has been invited to perform for at circuses and festivals across the globe, including in Ireland, Poland, Israel, New Zealand, North America and much more. After years of performing and teaching juggling all over the world with Oakland, CA as his home base, Kyle has decided to bring his juggling expertise to West Michigan, his new home. He was recently featured on the Top 40
Jugglers of 2018 list and has a passion for teaching and sharing his juggling with the community through social media and in person at workshops and shows throughout the area.
Each Thursday night from June 13 through August 29, 25 performing artists and groups will perform free for the public on 8th Street between Columbia and Pine Avenues from 6:30 pm –8:30 pm as part of the Downtown Holland Street Performer Series. 8th Street will be closed to traffic for the event for crowd safety purposes. While the Series is free to attend, tipping the performers is highly encouraged. In addition to the exclusive event sponsor, Gentex Corporation, the Street Performer Series is also supported by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs through the Holland Area Arts Council.
Street Performer Series Line-Up for August 8
Bangarang Circus Arts is a collective of performance artists who share a passion for all things circus and a desire for community. It’s their goal to offer the circus arts to everyone who seeks them. Bangarang Circus specializes in aerial arts, hooping and acrobatics.
Andy Callis has played accordion for the past 25 years in a variety of bands and as a street musician in Chicago. He holds a special fondness for the sounds of French Bal-Musette music, which was popular in Parisian clubs a century ago and was influenced by Gypsy Jazz and Italian folk music.
Libby Geurink is a high school math teacher, but she also enjoys sharing her talents in the form
of airbrush tattoos. Since beginning Be Airbrushing, Libby has enjoyed appearing at events,
creating tattoos for others and sharing the experience with her family.
Caricatures by Corey Ruffin
Corey is a world-renowned caricaturist who has drawn faces in 48 states and on 4 different continents. Corey emphasizes humor and comedy in his exaggerated drawings. He is one of the fastest caricature artists in the nation and can whip out a portrait in less than a minute…much to the crowd’s amazement!
Dan the Magic Man
Dan Mutschler is a self-taught balloon artist who performs regularly at birthday parties, scouting events, art fairs and at Logan’s Roadhouse. He also volunteers weekly at several nursing homes, performing card tricks and visiting with elderly residents.
With Grant “Funky” Frabe on bass and Samantha Rithamel on vocals, Dually Noted is an exciting duo who want to share their passion for music and performing. Both musicians have experience performing locally and are excited to continue performing on 8th Street in Holland.
Dying Will Be Easy
Brothers James and Ben Woiwode, along with friend Cameron Hurd, have been playing music together on and off for more than 10 years. The three have compiled an extensive repertoire, with a sound that includes roots blues, traditional folk songs and 30+ original songs the band has written over the years.
Fanatix is a crew of break-dancing family members who perform throughout the Holland community along with traveling to competitions across the country. They were established in 2014, and have participated in high level break-dancing competitions in Atlanta, Washington DC, New York and Chicago.
Brianne Helm, Nikki Hildenbrand and Christina Kortering have been playing and singing together for a few years in the Holland area. They specialize in uplifting, upbeat, folksy, pop and indie covers. Audiences are invited to enjoy the tight harmonies of Brianne and Nikki, and sway with the rhythm of Christina’s guitar!
Gooder’n Grits is an old time string band made up of fiddle, banjo, guitar, and brass performed by Robert and Shelley Hudson, Glenn and Julie Warners and Bryan Wittemore. The band has been performing together for eight years and will bring a mix of traditional country and bluegrass tunes to the Street Performer Series.
Grace began performing as a dancer and actress at young age. Now 19 years old, she performs publically in choir, at poetry readings, in talent shows and in musicals. She will be using her electric guitar, mandolin and piano to cover popular songs and share her own original music on Thursday nights this summer.
Greg Phillips has been performing for live audiences for the last 50 years and spent 43 of those years performing with the classic rock band Group Therapy. Greg plays a blend of easy listening and rock and roll covers from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. From America to ZZ Top, Greg covers it all.

Jahanara Begum has been a Street Performer in Downtown Holland since the beginning of the Street Performer Series. She is a highly skilled and experienced henna artist who uses all natural ingredients that are safe for the skin. Her designs never fail to impress her fans of all ages!

Britney’s fascination with the tradition of henna and her love for getting the tattoos as she was growing up led to her learning the art form herself. In the last few years, Britney has turned her hobby into something she can share with others, doing henna tattoos for her friends and a family and at parties
Ignition Brass is NOLA style brass band that ignites the fire of any party with heart-pounding energy. Their eclectic mix of music ranges from traditional New Orleans street music, to funk, hip-hop and pop. Members Patrick Donaghey, Mark Gamble, Jerson Gutierrez, Cole Mccord and Zack Spaulding bring together experience and infectious enthusiasm.
John Elizardo Jr.
John has been an artist for as long as he can remember. He is a local tattoo artist and does live spray painting as a street performer in Holland and Zeeland. He enjoys sharing his art with others and teaching viewers of all ages about his art.
Kaylie is a college junior who plays both acoustic and electric violin with a loop. In high school she performed with both the West Ottawa Chamber Orchestra and the Holland Area Youth Symphony. This will be her eighth year performing as part of the Thursday night Street Performer Series.
Lauren Whitaker is currently a sophomore at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. She began playing flute in fifth grade and continued to play through high school, achieving a number of musical awards and. Lauren is currently a member of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Maciek’s Magic Show
Maciek is an award-winning magician who provides the audience with an interactive magic show the whole family will be sure to love. He connects with his audience through a display of unique magic, strong visual effects, universal appeal to audiences on all levels, energetic style of presentation and tasteful humor.
Madelyn and Logan
Singers and guitarists Madelyn Roe and Logan Kimber have been performing together for the past ten years. In high school, they performed at open mic night events, showcase events and talent shows, and have recorded a number of popular cover songs for YouTube.
Mat engages the audience with a gift for comedy, mimicry and silent acting reminiscent of great mimes and physical comedians like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Red Skelton. Mat tosses, balances and spins a variety of objects in a juggling show that will both excite and amuse an audience of any age.
Patty Pershayla is a singer-songwriter from Grand Rapids. She is known for her powerful voice, her unapologetic lyrics, and her ukulele renditions of heavy metal songs. She is a full-time, independent musician, who credits her success to community and collaboration.
The Balloon Guy
Jim Perry, also known as “The Balloon Guy,” has been twisting balloons for more nearly 40 years. He is a graduate of the world famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College. Jim can make more than 100 different balloon animals, along with swords, flowers, hats and more.
The Eighth is an American rock duo formed in March of 2018 by friends Meg Hotchkiss on vocals and guitar and Samuel Penninga on drums. The Eighth have written a multitude of songs together, releasing a debut album called “8th Street” last year.
