As South Haven has been designated a Pure Michigan Trail Town, it only makes sense that it would be home to some great walks. Summer has already hosted the cottage walk and garden walk and now it’s time for the Boat Walk. The Michigan Maritime Museum will be hosting their 6th annual Boat Walk
August 17th from 12pm-4pm. Like the types of walks with which you may already be familiar, the Boat Walk allows you to explore privately owned vessels of different types and styles inside and out.
“It’s a privilege to support the Michigan Maritime Museum by participating in the annual Boat Walk,” says Scott Robbins, whose boat Motley Crew, will be featured in this year’s event. “I am thankful for the work MMM does to preserve our maritime heritage and bring awareness of the role that the maritime industry played in developing the communities around Lake Michigan, especially in South Haven.”
Your ticket gets you aboard all participating vessels to meet the owners/captains, ask questions, and just enjoy each of these beautiful boats in South Haven’s Maritime District. Visitors check in at the Museum for a program and map and can visit participating boats at their leisure during the 4-hour walk.
Once finished, walkers are welcomed back to the Museum to explore Museum exhibits, and a variety of their vessels, many of which offer on-water experiences with an educational twist. Tickets to the walk include 6-8 boats and Museum admission. The cost for the Boat Walk is $15 per person (ages 14 and up) and can be purchased at the event or in advance at the Museum’s Ship’s Store, through the Museum website, at the South Haven Visitor’s Bureau, and the South Haven Chamber of Commerce.
