Lakeshore Art Festival to showcase local artists

The Lakeshore Art Festival is celebrating seven years of art, music, and community. With nearly 400 exhibitors displaying works of art from all over the country, the Lakeshore Art Festival also highlights artists from the Muskegon Lakeshore area. Displaying local artist’s work amongst national artists helps to foster national exposure of our local art community.

Carla Flanders, Lakeshore Art Festival Director commented, “One focus of the Lakeshore Art Festival is to bring a lasting sense of creativity to the local community and encourage art at all levels. Having local artists featured throughout the festival helps to strengthen the bond between our festival, local artists and the beautiful Muskegon lakeshore community we call home.”

Some of this year’s featured local art includes:

PhotoVoice Exhibit – “What’s Needed for a Healthy Community” & Student Art Showcase: PhotoVoice features the works of high school teens in the Youth Empowerment Project from schools around the Muskegon area, this project is based on the simple yet often ignored idea that an individual is the best expert on their own life, and the best resource for understanding the struggles they face. These images along with art from the county-wide Student Art Showcase and the Community Canvas Project will be on display near the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District tent located at the intersection of 3rd St. and Western Ave.

Art in Motion – Kayak Project: In celebration of Muskegon being home to the world’s largest kayak manufacturer, two kayaks will be painted live during the festival! Visitors will be able to watch, art in motion, as the two local artists bring their designs to life in Hackley Park and in the Children’s Lane. The final works of art will be auctioned off, with portions of the proceeds going to Read Muskegon and future art project support. Event Partner: Sundolphin

In addition to the above, Lakeshore Art Festival favorites will return with, Chalk the Walk taking place on Friday from  4pm-6pm, live entertainment and a Children’s Lane.
