July 4th Activities in Frankfort

Frankfort’s Annual July 4th celebration will begin on July 1st at 9:00 am with the posting of the first clue for the Annual Medallion Hunt.  A new clue will be posted each morning until the Medallion is found.  The clues can be obtained at the Frankfort-Elberta Area Chamber of Commerce.  The winner will receive a check for $150.

July 4 is opening day of the Schmidt Amusements carnival!  The carnival will run every day through July 7. Discounted Advance Tickets are on sale now through July 4th at 10:00 am at the Chamber of Commerce Office in downtown Frankfort.  Contact the Chamber for carnival hours. SAVE $$ – buy them from the Chamber before July 4th at 10:00 am!

On the Fourth of July, the day’s activities will begin with the Decorated Bike judging in the Graceland Fruit parking lot at 9:30 am leading into the Parade at 10:00 am.

Art in the Park will be held in Mineral Springs Park from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and the Frankfort Lion’s Club will be holding their annual Chicken BBQ starting at noon.  Also at 10:am  until 1:00 pm, the First Congregational Church will hold their annual Koegel Hot Dog Sale.

To participate in the Sand Sculpture Contest on Lake Michigan Beach at noon, you only need to bring your tools, sunscreen, and your imagination down to the right of the pier.  Judging will be held at 2:00 pm.

As always, to enhance the fireworks at dusk, 3-D glasses will be available for purchase also at the Chamber office and on the beach for only $1 for a pair.  Also as a fundraiser, the Chamber will be selling glow necklaces. A portion of the sale will also benefit the Frankfort school National Honor Society!  Remember there are absolutely NO glass bottles, fireworks, sky lanterns or pets allowed on the beach on July 4th.


M22 between River Road and M168 (Street name ) in Elberta will be closed starting at dusk until all traffic has cleared after the Fireworks. Traffic will only be able to go SOUTH on M22 from Elberta Beach area (M168).  All traffic from Frankfort heading South towards Elberta on M22 (Lake Street) will be directed to turn left onto River Road.

A map of  traffic routes after the fireworks will be posted at the Command Center located at Main St and Michigan Ave.  PLEASE WATCH FOR SIGNAGE.

When you see a volunteer on the 4th collecting donations, please contribute – the fireworks are paid for by the Chamber and our only source of funds are donations collected that day and community members who pitch in!
