Muskegon Summer Wine Up This Weekend at Hackley Park

It’s finally here!

This Saturday, June 8th, kicks off the Muskegon Summer Wine Up, a brand new outdoor wine festival in downtown Muskegon. The weather forecast for Saturday is sunny and 83 degrees.

Which means that Saturday will be a perfect day for wine tasting.

Gates open from 2 pm until 8 pm for the inaugural Muskegon Summer Wine Up at Hackley Park in downtown Muskegon. The festival will include live music, food trucks, wine tastings, a “Mystery Wine Challenge”, and wine seminars.

It’s a perfect opportunity to get together with friends and explore what wines are all about.

“There has been a lot of interest in this event,” said Rich Berry of Cumulus Radio – Muskegon, the organizers of the Muskegon Summer Wine Up. “The media has done a great job promoting what we are trying to do.

“We’ve been featured on WZZM 13, FOX 17, MLIVE and a host of magazines and online publications,” said Berry. “We’re very appreciative of the support that we have received from Muskegon and Muskegon County too.”

Ten wineries will be bringing a variety of wines for sampling purposes. Samples will be approximately 1.5 ounces, which organizers say is enough to truly sample a wine.

“Representatives from the wineries will be available to talk about their wines,” Berry explained. “We want people to discover wines. Some they may like and others – may not. But if they find some wines that they like, they can purchase those same wines later at their favorite wine store.”

A series of seminars from various wineries will be held every 45 minutes. Each seminar will include samples. Subjects include how to read a wine label, the different types of Roses, a history of St. Julian Wine and other subjects.

Additionally, there will be a Mystery Wine Competition. Patrons will be asked to guess which wine is the expensive wine and which is the cheaper wine. Guessing the correct wine will put you in a drawing for prizes.

Admission is $15.00 and includes a souvenir wine glass and four wine sample tickets. Additional samples may be purchased throughout the day. A Wine “Scorecard” will also be included for people to write down the wines they liked if they wish to purchase bottles at their favorite wine stores.

You must be 21 or older to attend. Everyone must present valid ID to be admitted.

The “Muskegon Summer Wine Up” is presented by the Little River Casino, HarborLight Credit Union, Parties in the Park, the Muskegon Heights Optimist Club and the Cumulus Radio Stations of Muskegon.
