After a highly successful inaugural event, the Great Lakes Surf Festival is planning to hold their second annual event on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 at Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon Michigan. During the 2018 event, over 1000 people attended. 280 of those learned how to surf, SUP, and kayak for the first time. Event goers also participated in yoga and countless workshops and clinics geared to educated and enhance a board rider’s skills. Similar to the 2018 event, the 2019 Great Lakes Surf Festival will focus on fun for all ages and a safe family atmosphere. Standup Paddle races are planned throughout the day for riders of all age groups. There will also be an artificial wave generating vessel that will generate small waves for surfing. Kayak races and Standup Paddle Yoga will also be on the agenda. Local artists will be invited to design blank surfboard that will be showcased at the event. Food and drinks will also be available. While this event promises to be a board rider’s nirvana, one of the most appealing aspects of participating in this festival will be the opportunity to camp directly on the beach, just a few steps from the water. Tent camping, at a specified section of Pere Marquette Beach, will be available for the nights of Friday, August 16th and Saturday August 17th.
Regional sports retail shops are expected to participate as is a throng of major industry brands. Registered participants will be eligible for free product raffles, including a variety of boards, clothing, and a variety of sports related accessories. “Imagine a late summer day on an amazing beach, doing what you love and surrounded by so many people from all over the Great Lakes, who share the same passion. That is our goal” Says Joe Bidawid, the event Founder.
