The latest project for Lansing-based Jerry Matthews Natural Course Design is The Torch at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin. Situated high on bluffs, it offers views of Torch Lake to the east and Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay to the west. Matthews has been designing courses for more than 40 years and is the past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.

Designed by Vern Nelson, the Elmbrook Golf Course in Traverse City opened in 1964 and is among the oldest public par-72 golf courses in northern Michigan. In addition to traditional rounds, Elmbrook has recently added night golf and footgolf to expand their appeal to multiple audiences.

The Gaylord Golf Mecca is home to more than a dozen courses that collectively have welcomed more than three million visitors over the past three decades. Tom Doak designed the Black Forest course at Wilderness Valley, while Treetops Resort offers five courses designed by legends such as Robert Trent Jones (Masterpiece), Rick Smith (Signature), and Tom Fazio (Premier, his only Michigan course). Nearby Bay Harbor Golf Club boasts three world-class courses including The Links, whose 7th hole ranks as one of the top 500 golf holes in the world by Golf Magazine.
