Fishing: Charters, Rentals & Lessons

Many West Michigan businesses offer charters, rentals, and even lessons. Whether you’re new to the sport or looking to get out on the water on your own, West Michigan has you covered.

The Freedom Boat Club chapter in Spring Lake is conveniently located minutes away from downtown Grand Haven. The marina features a swimming pool, clubhouse, grills, showers, restrooms, and ice. There are several great restaurants, sandwich shops, and breweries within minutes of the marina, and some will deliver to your boat at the dock.

Experience the freshest fishing experience at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island with its Lake to Plate: Fishing and Culinary Experience package. The two-night package includes accommodations, a five-hour private fishing charter, a dinner of the fish you catch that day, and round-trip ferry tickets on Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry. They’ll even package any fish caught and not eaten during your dinner so you can take them home with you.

Tommy’s, located next to Hotel Walloon in Walloon Lake, rents an extensive selection of pontoon boats and can get you out on the water in style so you can experience some of the best walleye and perch fishing in the area.

Ranch Rudolf in Traverse City offers the ideal setting for fly fishing, and for those interested, many times they can coordinate a lesson or series of lessons during your stay. There are two stocked trout ponds on the property in which even the most amateur of fishermen stands a good chance of reeling one in. This is also a great place for children to bait and hook their first big catch.

Indigo Bluffs RV Park & Resort in Empire has fishing charters that run directly from their resort to Lake Michigan or Glen Arbor. Both offer the chance to catch salmon, lake trout, and perch. Grab a charter, and you can have a delicious fish fry back at your camper, tent, or RV.
