Tulip Time Festival (www.tuliptime.com) recently announced plans for their Tulip Time Quilt Show. The Quilt Show is a unique display of more than 100 beautiful, hand-made bed and wall quilts created by area artists. The show takes place at the Holland Area Arts Council where all of the quilts are expertly displayed in the Padnos and Armstrong galleries. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorites as part of the Viewers’ Choice competition. Cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place and are announced on Saturday, May 11 at 11a.
Artists interested in submitting quilts can do so through Monday, April 1st. Entry forms are available at the Tulip Time office or can be downloaded at https://www.tuliptime.com/assets/2019-QulitShowEntryForm-Final.pdf.
Each year, the Quilt Show Committee creates a raffle quilt. Colleen Dekker and Cheryl Zylman created this year’s quilt. It depicts a bed of beautiful, brightly colored tulips created in an array of batik fabrics. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Quilt Show for $1/each. The drawing will take place on Saturday, May 11 at 11a.
Proceeds from the raffle will benefit two very worthy, local organizations – Big Red Quilters’ Guild and Living Threads Ministries. Big Red Quilters’ Guild began in May 2014 with a small but dedicated group of quilters. Its mission is to ensure textile and needle arts continue for future generations through education and promotion of all quilting styles, including traditional, modern and art quilting. The Living Threads Ministry helps people remember loved ones they have lost through death or altered by dementia by making quilts from clothing and treasured items. The ministry also provides volunteers purposeful opportunities to utilize their talents for the benefit of others.
The Tulip Time Quilt Show is open Sat., May 4, 10a-5p; Sun., May 5, 12-3p; Mon., May 6 through Sat., May 11, 10a-8p; and Sun., May 12, 12-3p. Tickets are $6/each and can be purchased online at www.tuliptime.com, via phone at 616-396-4221, at the Tulip Time Office located at 42 W. 8th Street, or at the door.
