These Traverse City grown musicians came together earlier this year to perform while they were home in August. Those who attended our concert last Dec. with harpist Marta Power Luce and violinist Ivan Suminski will remember his amazing talent. He graduated with a degree violin performance at Eastman School of Music in Rochester NY this spring.

Ivan Suminski is a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, having earned two degrees in Violin Performance and Mechanical Engineering. While at Eastman, Ivan studied under Federico Agostini, was awarded a Performer’s Certificate, and sat concertmaster of the Eastman Philharmonia Orchestra for performances of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and Strauss’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme. Prior to Eastman, Ivan’s former teachers include Laura Speck-Camacho, Annie Chalex-Boyle, and Susan Raguse, with whom he started lessons at age 5. He has played in masterclasses for Frank Almond, Gerardo Ribeiro, and Jaime Laredo, as well as chamber music workshops with the Danish, Jupiter, Calidore, and Ying Quartets. Currently, Ivan is pursuing a masters degree in violin performance and chamber music at the University of Rochester, where he studies with Aaron Berofsky.

Joe Skerik began playing viola at the age of eleven. His primary teachers were Allison Dobbs, Renee Skerik, David Holland, and Jeffrey Irvine. He has participated in the Stringwood Chamber Program, Interlochen Arts Camp, Green Lake Chamber Music Festival, Perlman Music Program, Castleman Quartet Program, and the Montecito Festival. He has played in masterclasses for Yitzhak Schotten, Elias Goldstein, Paul Colletti, Heidi Castleman, Jeffrey Irvine, David Holland, and Lynne Ramsey. He has performed chamber music with Yitzhak Schotten, Tom Landschoot, and Shmuel Ashkenasi. This fall marks the start of his freshman year at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he is a student of Jeffrey Irvine and a participant in the Advanced String Quartet Program.

Kyle Stachnik is currently a Junior in the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami where he studies under Professor Ross Harbaugh. Previous to Frost, Kyle attended Interlochen Arts Academy under the instruction of Crispin Campbell. With a passion for chamber music, Kyle has been able to participate in chamber music masterclasses with string quartets such as the Calidore, Jupiter, Bergonzi, and Pro Arte. Kyle’s notable performances include participation in Interlochen’s partnership with the New York Philharmonic for a performance at the 2016 Biennial concert series at David Geffen Hall, working on world premiers with composers such as Nico Muhly, Hannah Lash, and Ashley Fure. Kyle also participated in a side-by-side collaboration with the members of grammy-winning contemporary music ensemble, eighth blackbird.

As a trio, Veridian made its debut in August of 2018, giving a small series of concerts in the Traverse City Area. Prior to that, however, Ivan Joe and Kyle played together as part of the TSO Civic Honors String Quartet program in 2013-14 and represented Traverse City Central High School in the Shar String Quartet Competition where they took first place. The three played together again in the summer of 2016 at the Green Lake Chamber Music Festival, and plan on continuing to perform together both at home and away.
