Gooooooo Chipmunks! Farmers Alley Theatre’s famous “Cabaret Series” is back with the return of our favorite female foursome in the brand-new jukebox musical Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On. Performed in our original black box space in downtown Kalamazoo, this family-friendly revue will be playing December 7th-30th at 221 Farmers Alley. Our cabaret setting includes dessert & coffee with your ticket, and our bar will be open for any adult beverages, beer, wine & hot chocolate as you take in some of the greatest songs from the ’60s & ’70s. “Putting on our cabaret show every December is a highlight for us every season,” says Executive Director, Adam Weiner. “And with great songs and a show & characters as beloved as “The Marvelous Wonderettes”, this is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser for the entire family.”
It’s 1969 and “The Marvelous Wonderettes” (prom queen Cindy Lou, tomboy Betty Jean, goody-two-shoes Missy & class clown Suzy) are back to throw a retirement party for their favorite teacher, set to the greatest girl-group hits of the ’60s (“Gimme Some Lovin”, “It’s Your Thing”). Act Two finds the girls back together as the class of 1958 celebrates their 20-year reunion as one of the Wonderettes hits it big as a musical superstar! Classic pop and rock hits of the ’70s (“We are Family”, “I Will Survive”) provide the perfect soundtrack for these old friends to catch up on the places life has led them, all performed with their own marvelous spin!
Sandra Bremer returns to direct and choreograph after helming our first two versions of the show, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” and “Winter Wonderettes”. WMU’s Jeremiah Downes (The Christians, Beyond the Rainbow) serves as Music Director.
Artistic Director Jeremy Koch has put together an extremely talented cast of Farmers Alley Theatre favorites to portray the Wonderettes. Whitney Weiner (seen as Jenny in It Shoulda Been You, Trailer Park Musicals) plays the edgy prankster Betty Jean. WMU Alum Mallory King (I Love a Piano, Pinkalicious!) will charm audiences as the ditzy blonde, Suzy. Missy Karle (bride Rebecca in It Shoulda Been You) will keep everything in order as Teacher’s Pet, Missy. And NYC performer Julia Burrows (star of the upcoming Fathom event movie “Buttons”) roams the halls as the self-obsessed beauty queen, Cindy Lou. And when these four come together to sing in harmony, it’s a musical Christmas present that is well worth opening early!
