As an award-winning composer, Roger MacNaughton has found success writing for solo piano, jazz combos, and even symphonic groups. In his newest CD, “The Power of Three,” MacNaughton further hones his orchestral skills. Consisting of fifteen originals for piano, cello, and violin, the pianist and composer makes full use of the instrumental talents of his “MacRaven” partner, cellist Steve VanRavenswaay, and the versatile violinist Susan Mora. Through music, the trio “MacRaven & Mora” navigates multiple emotions – hope, despair, joy, tenderness, devotion, sadness, elation, reflection, and meditation.
With this newest CD, MacNaughton credits include a discography of ten instrumental CDs. His compositions have won first place four times for the ArtPrize Music Award. The composition “Charlevoix Keepsake” has been recognized as the Best Composition in the USA by Music Aid International, and MacNaughton has been named Composer of the Year by the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts in addition to winning multiple awards by the Great Lakes Songwriting Competition.
