Grand Rapids Independence Day Fireworks Announces Entertainment Schedule

The Amway Family Fireworks will light up the Grand Rapids skies on Saturday, July 7 at Ah-Nab-Awen Park in downtown Grand Rapids in celebration of Independence Day. The 2018 event marks the eighth year of Amway’s sponsorship of the annual fireworks display, which promises to be an amazing experience for families across West Michigan.

The July 7th spectacular, which is once again free and open to the public will kick off at 5:00 p.m. at Ah-Nab-Awen Park. The fun includes bands, family activities, games, food trucks, vendor exhibits and continues through the start of the fireworks display, which will start at 10:30 p.m.

Riverbank Events and Media, home of the Fifth Third River Bank Run is coordinating the live entertainment. There are four performances on the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Stage, each lasting approximately 45 minutes including:

Hank Mowery and the Hawktones – Hank Mowery has been a mainstay on the Blues scene in Grand Rapids. As General Manager for The Rhythm Kitchen, Hank honed his skills jamming nightly with local and national blues acts. He promises to put on a great show as part of the celebration.

Delusions of Adequacy – A Grand Rapids-based band playing family-friendly party favorites to get you rockin’.

Sundry – Sundry is a music group passionate about uniting a diverse world through the struggles and commonalities of human life. Influences include Ben Rector, Coldplay Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, Audrey Assad, Mumford & Sons and Needtobreathe.

Hey Marco – A six-piece jazz & pop band from Grand Rapids. This band is super talented as they blend intricate rhythms, melodies and harmonies together with soaring vocals.

In addition to live entertainment from 5 until 8:00pm, children (and children at heart!) can enjoy the Amway Family Zone, which will include arts and crafts, face painting, and yard games.

This year’s event, much like the previous events that Amway has been a part of, will focus on celebrating family, freedom, and community.

“The Amway Family Fireworks is a great way for us to focus on the things that are important to us as a company: family, freedom, and community.  Amway does stand for the American way after all!” says David Madiol of Amway community relations. “We are looking forward to providing another great event for our community, and we’re excited to present a longer fireworks display with an amazing finish.”

Russ Hines, CEO for Riverbank Events and Media, looks forward to sharing fun, freedom, and friendship with others at the Amway Family Fireworks. “It’s exciting to bring all of West Michigan to downtown Grand Rapids as a community to give families a place to enjoy and celebrate our Nation’s independence,” he said.

Aside from Amway and Riverbank Events and Media, this year’s sponsors and partners include the City of Grand Rapids, Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Meijer, Snap Fitness, Kodiak Construction, The Salvation Army, Courtyard by Marriott Downtown, Amway Grand Plaza, Watermark Properties, MCS Marketing and the Fifth Third River Bank Run.
