Remember hula hoops, pet rocks, and beanie babies? These and more are part of the Art Center of Battle Creek‘s fundraiser, Heart of Art, taking place on Saturday, May 12th from 3-6 pm. This event will be filled with nostalgic items relating to the art center’s 70-year history in the Battle Creek community. The event includes a fashion show featuring models from the Junior League, another organization celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. In 1962, the Junior League was instrumental in helping the art center purchase its current location at 265 East Emmett Street.
Area artists have donated items for the silent and live auctions. “Our board of directors has set a goal of $10,000 to be raised with this event,” said Linda Holderbaum, Executive Director at the Art Center of Battle Creek. “We have a generous match with our great supporters Bob and Ellie DeVries for the first $6,000 raised. We hope others will step up to this match.”
The backdrop for this event is the 7 Decades exhibition, featuring historic items and the history of the Art Center of Battle Creek. This exhibit is open now through May 26th.
