FireKeepers Casino Hotel is pleased to announce that Pastry Chef Kellie Trimble-Dearie has been named a Culinary Star of the Year by the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association.
This award recognizes chefs, who apply creativity and innovative techniques to their exploration of regional, national and international cuisine to the delight of guests. The Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association is a 110-year old trade association that represents, promotes and educates Michigan’s lodging and tourism industries.
Chef Kellie has been with FireKeepers Casino Hotel since November of 2015. She oversees a team of 28 who produce a wide array of award-winning desserts, pastries, and breads, which feed thousands of people each day at the eight restaurants on the FireKeepers property, including specialty cakes for weddings and banquets. Kellie and her team also produce breads and desserts for company-owned restaurant, The Fire Hub, located in Battle Creek.
Director of Food and Beverage, Brandon Coco nominated her for the award. “Kellie exemplifies the level of service we strive to provide at FireKeepers Casino Hotel through excellent food quality and great leadership of her team,” he wrote. “Kellie leads by example through hard work and determination. She is an inspiring leader who has a team that goes above and beyond every day.”
Chef Kellie loves to leverage food to give back to the community. She volunteers time with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, the Girl Scouts of America Cookie Bake-Off Fundraiser, and the Marshall Farmers Market, for which she coordinates an annual Farm to Table benefit dinner. She was also the driving force behind The Fire Hub’s partnership with Horrock’s market in Battle Creek, to sell gluten-free artisan breads and desserts created by her team.
