New Odyssey Dinner Show – This high-energy festival favorite delights audiences every time by adding new surprises each year. FiddleFire – A passion for creating exciting musical arrangements as well as the desire to perform together was the inspiration for the Panning Family to form their string band, FiddleFire. This group specializes in a variety of music including classical to driving fiddle tunes. Their diverse instrumentation includes fiddles, guitar, string bass, mandolin, percussion and dancing feet! Liverpool Legends – Liverpool Legends are four incredibly talented musicians and actors hand-picked by Louise Harrison – sister of the late George Harrison of The Beatles. Tulip Time, along with presenting sponsor Fifth Third Bank, are pleased to announce the Local Arts & Culture performances for the 2018 Tulip Time Festival. Each year, several of Holland’s cultural organizations partner with Tulip Time to create an array of entertainment for festival visitors. This year’s events include many new surprises.
Calendar Girls – Based on the true story of 11 women who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund, “Calendar Girls” opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre and has since become the fastest-selling play in British theatre history. No actual nudity in this performance. Performances are held at the Holland Civic Theatre on Sat., May 5 from 7-9p, Sun., May 6 from 2-4p, Tue., May 8 – Sat., May 12 from 7-9p. Tickets are $23/person.
The Three Faces of Steve – Holland Windmill Chorus wraps its barbershop harmonies around a parody of “Three Faces of Eve” – the 1957 film about a woman with multiple personalities, three separate lives and the psychiatrist who tries to cure her. A Tulip Time tradition unbroken since the 1960s, this year’s 90-minute show loosely adapts the tale to poke fun at the chorus’ director. Tulip Time Quilt Show – Enjoy a unique display of more than 100 exquisite handmade bed quilts, wall hangings, and art quilts. Local artists provide all of these creations that are beautifully displayed in the Padnos and Armstrong galleries of the Holland Area Arts Council. The exhibit runs Sat., May 5, 10a-5p; Sun., May 6, 12p-3p; Mon., May 7 – Fri, May 11, 10a-8p; Sat., May 12, 10a-1p and Sun., May 13, 12-3p. Tickets are $6/person.
Happily Ever Laughter – Laughter and song unite under the creative direction of Dr. Patrick Coyle, as the Holland Chorale uniquely entwines their remarkable musical talents with the unexpected pop of comic relief. Tulip Time and the Saugatuck Center for the Arts partner to bring you this performance that leads you through the joys, trials and humor of relationships expressed through music and comedy. Dutch Organ Music – on a High Speed Train – Concert organist Rhonda Sider Edgington will introduce listeners to the breadth and depth of Dutch organ music. You’ll be led on a high-speed journey through the history of Dutch organ music, including some of the greatest compositions by Dutch composers such as Ad Wammes’ “Ride on a High Speed Train.” Hope Church; Sun., May 6 from 7-8p at Hope Church. Dutch Brunch & Show – Enjoy a delightful brunch buffet featuring a variety of traditional Dutch and American foods, coupled with a one-hour show. We’re creating an eclectic collection of performances to be held at the Knickerbocker Theatre, on Hope College’s campus in Downtown Holland. The Nights at the Knick series will run Thu., May 10 through Sat., May 12. The series kicks off with a fabulous Michigan talent.
Joshua Davis – A tried and true Michigan musician, Joshua Davis gained national acclaim as a finalist on NBC’s “The Voice.” His rough-n-tumble grit mixes with an undeniable Midwesterner’s charm when bringing songs from his recently released album, The Way Back Home, to the stage.
