The Holland Area Arts Council is excited to announce their Fall classes and workshops in drawing, painting, ceramics, jewelry and photography.
The Arts Council will offer a three-day indoor workshop featuring visiting artist, Douglas David, starting Thursday, September 21st at 10am and running through Saturday, September 23rd at 4pm. Using stories, demonstrations, discussion and one-on-one guidance, David will teach students to paint lakes, seascapes and boats in oil. The Arts Council is also offering another Calligraphy Workshop with artist, Jane Ewing. Ewing will teach students artistic modern script and a formal historical alphabet on Saturday, October 14th from 10am to 4pm.
In a wild twist on the arts, the Arts Council is offering a Fly Tying class titled The Art of Deception. Fly tying requires students to lean in close and observe the form and function of some of the natural world’s most subtly beautiful creatures, and then to recreate them in artifice. This, in turn, teaches the fly tier to abandon the furious pace of modern life for a bit, and become still enough to see, often in materials so humble and unassuming that we’ve all but forgotten they exist, the potential to become art by imitating life. The 4-week class begins on Tuesday, October 17th at 5:30pm.
Along with workshops and explorations in new art forms, the Arts Council will offer fine art classes in drawing, modern watercolor painting, alla prima portrait painting in oil and beginner’s photography.
Art Glass Jewelry classes also continue through the fall with the addition of a new Fused Glass and Jewelry Studio space and Open Studio opportunities for fused glass artists.
Regular ceramics classes and open studio opportunities are also ongoing, but this fall the Arts Council is adding one-evening ceramics workshops featuring wheel throwing, ceramics beads, ceramics for couples and holiday ornament making.
